Oh Happy Day!

I had some time last night while the hubby worked on estimates and invoicing for the month (fun, fun!) and without a clear reason in mind sat down to create something fun without any deadlines, design teams, or birthdays that required a card. Of course I turned to a few challenge sites to help get the mojo flowing, but it was nice to make something because I wanted to, instead of because I needed a project done :)

I've been eyeing the negative space cards (not sure what else you call them!) for some time and decided to try my hand at something a little more 3D and CAS than I might normally create. Had to keep telling myself "Do not use ink. Do not use ink!"

I started by cutting out the cloud shapes using the Fiskars cloud punch(s) and adhering it to the card with 3D tape, filling in the blank space with scraps of My Minds Eye paper (can't remember the collections anymore!). The rest was easy peasy as all I had to do then was create the kite and adhere the letters. It was a great way to use up some of the itty bitty pieces of my favourite papers that I just couldn't bear to throw away!

I Will Always Love You : Layout

I don't scrapbook very often, but was inspired recently by the wedding photos that I have that were waiting patiently to be put in my photo album. Because our photographer had included a gorgeous wedding album in her package, I haven't felt the need to scrapbook any of my photos (they are already so well documented!) but I made a little exception with one of my favorite photos from the day.

Its rather a purple page, but I'm so glad I had these papers in my stash because they created exactly the type of layout that I was hoping it would become. I've also tried to make a point of using my own handwriting on my pages as it helps to keep them personal, though its tempting at times to just use fonts and such, because I'm always worried about messing up!

Scrappin Patch : OTP Inspiration

I have two cards to share with you today for my Scrappin Patch Inspiration post. I thought I had run out of time and could only make one, but somehow the second card manage to squeeze itself into the time I had set aside. I love it when that happens! I was even more productive than I had planned ;)

I'm still playing with these gorgeous stickers and papers from my last kit. I can't believe how far you can stretch a kit when you need too. Originally I looked at all the things Adrienne and sent and thought "theres no way I can get 7 projects from this!" but I managed 8, and still have some left overs. Hurrah!

I used the technique from this post I created a matching flower with my little scrap bits and adhered it to a card that pretty well used up the rest of my larger scrap bits :) I love making cards for that reason, there always seems to be enough paper even when its just little bits and pieces. Once again I was able to use the gorgeous Glitz Vintage Blue "Titles" stickers for the sentiment/banner.

For my next card, I dug into my own stash a little more to accent the great Scrappin Patch product. I had a a really hard time photographing this card, no matter what angle/lighting/setting I was using, the layers just aren't coming through like they do in person. I think it might be because I was a bit generous with the glimmer mist once I had adhered it all together! I loved these roses from Glitz's Vintage Blue line, they worked as the perfect backdrop for the rest of the card. Its hard to see, but I created an origami dress behind the "MOM", a technique I just recently discovered but will be sharing with you all in my next technique post. They are so much fun, and so cute!

MME Alphabet Soup Canvas

I am by my very nature, a hoarder of the 10th degree if there is such a thing. Another word could also be pack-rat but that sounds more like I stash garbage all around the house. I like to think of myself as more of a keeper of nice things, and frightened to use them because I no longer have them in my stash at my beck and call should I ever decided (heaven forbid!) to use it. I hoard all things that I love, and perhaps none more so than a little package of Alphabet Soup Playing Cards that Sarah gave me a few years ago from MME.

They looked very nice in my stash and although I have attempted a number of times to use one or two from the set on various projects, I never could quite bring myself to do it. I'm rather grateful now because it meant when the rather brilliant idea of setting them on a canvas came to me, I still had the entire alphabet.

Although it hurt a little to dig into that long preserved stash and adhere them to the canvas (using Mod Podge if you're curious to the method) I calm myself with the knowledge that in a way, I'm still hoarding them, only this time instead of being buried in a place only I can enjoy them, the adorable playing cards are proudly displayed on the wall, in a room that deserves some really cute things. Baby Mosher will make its appearance in August and while I always told myself I was not going to be one of those Mother's who had to have the nursery decorated before baby arrived, I don't quite seem to be fitting into the mold I made for myself. This isn't the first project that I've made that is now adorning the walls of the room, but I'm leaving those projects for another post.

And even though it kind of looks like everything is in the "pink" theme, we don't actually know the gender of the baby. Pink might not be a manly colour, but I figure that if I am getting good enough deals on a few used pink items (namely the Bumboo Seat) before baby arrives, and he's a ... him, he'll be small enough that he won't know the difference, and I'll be so happy about the money I saved, it won't matter to much :) The other projects I'm working on are much more gender neutral. Its just that Sarah gave me the girl Alphabet Soup cards, so really, what was I to do?

I knew I wanted to make something differant for the April Challenge at "Challenge me Happy" and I think this fits well inside the guidelines of "Anything Goes" :) 

Its a blustery day outside, wet, wet snow is falling. I had hoped spring had arrived, but it seems to have missed that memo. Hoping your day is a filled with a little more sunshine, and a little less snow.

I Adore You : My Minds Eye

I am not usually a bandwagon jumper. However, when there is a collection of My Minds Eye on the line, I'm quite willing to jump on, or off any wagon they would like me too (within reason of course ;). Such is the case with My Minds Eye April Challenge : Hexagons. I'm not really sure what the hype surrounding hexagons is right now, but its not really my thing. I'm much more the sort to get excited about polka dots, or bunting, or something along those lines. However, they asked to play along with hexagons, so that's what I did!

I didn't have a single sheet of paper in my entire stash (even outside MME) that had hexagons on it, so I followed Anam Stubbingtons idea and created my own little hexagon embellishments. I quite enjoyed the card though, and working outside my comfort zone a little. It wasn't a lot though, because working with 80% + MME product is right in my comfort zone!

Card Cupids

I recently had the honour of joining the design team as a guest member for the month of April of a very special blog that I wanted to share with you. Card Cupids is a non-profit designed to provide encouragement and joy by sending cards and goodies such as stuffed animals, coloring books and art supplies to children who are facing difficult challenges in their young lives regardless of their economic background. This organization is designed to collect and send a bundle of  cards with words of encouragement to needy children for their birthday or in a time of need along with a cuddly stuffed animal.

For those of us who make scores of cards, this is a perfect oppertunity to give a little bit back to those who could really use some encouragement. I'm very excited about Stephanie's vision and hope you'll take a peak at the website and consider playing along with the April challenge, or sending in some cards of your own!

For the April challenge I was asked to work with stamps from the Stamping Boutique and choose this adorable Moose image paired with Basic Grey papers from my stash for my first card.

Trying to be a little more diligent in playing along regularly with one of my favourite challenge sites .... CASE Study, this weeks muse is Laurie Schmidlin. I loved this opportunity to see her work and and thrilled that I was able to have a chance to play along.

Celebrate : CAS-ual Fridays

Just another quick post to share another card for the CAS-ual friday challenge.

Theme for the challenge was : Based on a Song. I'm sure many of you have heard this song, it was one of my favourites growing up. I wanted to make a thankful/celebration themed card to go with the "Thank you Father for Making me, Me!"
