{Rebecca} DYSU : Buttons

>> Thursday, August 16, 2012

Just popping in quickly to share my card for Do You Stack Up?'s 85th challenge, Buttons! I kept it fairly simple with the buttons really being the only embellishments that the card needed in addition to a few layers of cardstock. We're off in a few days to BC for my little brother's wedding! Time moves so quickly. Last year at this time I was preparing for my own wedding and now here we are, parents and soon to celebrate our first anniversary ...

SUPPLIES
My Minds Eye Honey Cake Paper
Bazzill Cardstock
Vintage Buttons

Be sure to swing by and take a look at what the rest of the girls have created for your inspiration!

{Rebecca} DYSU : Anything with 4 Legs

>> Thursday, August 9, 2012

I'm a big animal lover, not obsessive or anything, but I do love my having a score or so of furry beings around. I've joked in the past that if I had my way, I would open up a petting zoo as an excuse to have one of every kind of animal imaginable. Knowing my weakness, my husband has (wisely) set forth the rule that currently I'm only allowed to have animals if they serve a purpose. If he didn't, I think I would have bought out our local pet shop :)

Our current challenge from Do You Stack Up? is to create a card inspired by, for, or with 4 legged animal friends. I was thrilled to be able to work with Bugaboo Stamps for this challenge using thier adorable turtle digi image. He turned out to be exactly what my card for my 5 year old brother in law needed. I coloured him with pencil crayons and accented differant parts of the shell and hat with glitter, though its not coming through to well in the photos.

SUPPLIES
Bugaboo Turtle Digi
My Minds Eye Paper, tag, brad
Misc stickers, ribbon, buttons
Starbucks coffee sleeve

Thanks for looking and be sure to take a peak at the Do You Stack Up? challenge blog. Along with Bugaboo Stamps, The Paper Shelter, and Birdie Brown have offered some terrific prizes to the winners of our challenge. Of course, even if you don't find time to participate in the challenge, its worth hopping over just to see what the other design team members have created. There are some projects there that will knock your socks off!

{Sarah} Catered Crop: White Pages

>> Wednesday, August 8, 2012

I've never really gotten into the whole CAS thing when it comes to my paper crafting.  It is definitely a look that I admire and appreciate, but I like "stuff" too much and can't seem to help piling it on my pages.   However, when I saw this week's Recipe Swap over at the Catered Crop, I knew that it was a good time to try something a little bit different.

I've had these images pinned to my Pinterest board for quite a while.  I love the simplicity of the white on white, and I am a huge fan of typographic art.  Unfortunately, with 4 little kids in the house, white is not a color I use very frequently in my decor.

However, I've always thought that these canvases would translate very well as a card.

Supplies Used: American Crafts Cardstock & Ribbon

At first I was going to use Thickers (painted white) on a white cardstock background to achieve the look I was going for, but I couldn't find quite the right font in my stash.  Then I remembered that, (thanks to my wonderful husband) I have a Silhouette Cameo!!! and can cut out any shape that I want.  I simply created my graphic, mounted the words with foam adhesive for a bit of dimension and slipped a piece of ribbon in behind the words.  I originally intended to keep the whole card completely white, but it looked a little bit...boring... so I added just a touch of purple cardstock.  I finished it all off with a spray of glimmer mist, but I don't think that really shows up in the picture.

Now head on over to the Catered Crop to check out all the details of this week's White Pages Recipe Swap!

{Rebecca} Catered Crop White Pages Quickfire Challenge

>> Tuesday, August 7, 2012

Its time for another Recipe Exchange over at Catered Crop and let me tell you, this one was a challenge for me! White Pages, highlighting mainly well....the colour white. I'm not really a white person. I love color and patterns, textures, and basically anything besides just plain white. Case in point, there isn't a white wall in my house, every single wall is painted.

But I persisted and in the end was able to to create something that I'm rather happy with. I wasn't able to stick quite entirely with just white, so I compromised, but kept it simple with the addition of kraft paper.

SUPPLIES
White and Kraft paper from Stash
Starbucks cup liners
Vintage ribbons and buttons

Be sure to check out Sarah's project as well in a few days and the other gorgeous creations that I know the other ladies are cooking up. You still have almost 2 weeks to enter the challenge and I'm looking forward to see what you come up with.

{Rebecca} DYSU : Polkadots!

>> Thursday, August 2, 2012

What a fun challenge we have over at Do You Stack Up this week! Polkadots! Seriously, how can you go wrong with a challenge like that? The challenge wasn't in creating something with polkadots, but in deciding which of my polkadot papers to actually use. I finally settled on some My Minds Eye that I had recently acquired, and paired it with a fun transparency from the Abbey Road collection.

I made this card for Papa (husbands grandfather) and at the time I had no idea they had once traveled across North America in a green VW van. My husband thought I had done it on purpose, but it was really just a neat coincidence. Papa of course, loved it!

Just like every week there are some fun prizes to be won on the DYSU blog, be sure to stop in and check out all the fun goodies that the girls have lined up for you.

{Rebecca} Love is always in Season

>> Wednesday, August 1, 2012

How gorgeous is this sketch from Once Upon a Sketch? I've been looking around for layout challenges for a while that could help get the mojo flowing and I have to say that I think I found what I'm looking for. The site is gorgeous and all the wonderful inspiration from the design team is almost overwhelming! Thanks ladies for the kick start!

I also used this inspiration board from Berry71Bleu for some added inspiration. There's a few little butterflies scattered throughout the page. Somehow I am finding it very difficult to leave them off any project that I do!

I started with some pretty pastel colours and just allowed the page to grow from there. I love how I ended up having all the right shades of turqoise, even though I didn't think I had any in my stash! The new American Crafts Knock Out punches have been getting a work out over here, but they're just so much fun!
